Over the years, the Maldives has
dominated the World’s diving
scenario. The majority of tourists
visit the Maldives to satiate their
quench for scuba diving. With thousands
of U.S. Virgin Islands, serene and
best dive sites, Maldives grew as
one of the most sought after destinations
in the world.
Scuba diving in the Maldives has
two types of dive sites and kandu-thila.
A Kandu has a channel, called Dhivehi,
between the reefs and islands at
the periphery of an atoll. Kandus
are ultimate drift dives which also
attract many marine species. A kandu
is a site where fish reefs, sharks
and eagle rays are at its peak.
Hulhidhoo Kandu wedged between
Aarah and Hulhudhoo, deserted islands,
is an ideal site for diving in the
Maldives. For the outer side of
the reef, a field of terraced rice-shaped
reef is regarded as the best place
for adventure for scuba diving.
Spot manta rays, snapper, turtles,
fish, tuna and many other marine
species.
Spot eagle ray and sharks in Rasfari
Kandu located in North Male Atoll.
As the tidal current is strong,
diving becomes more difficult and
adventurous. Guraidhoo located in
South Male atoll is popular among
tourists and local people for a
hundred dolphins that play spinning.
Kandu Fushi is a chain running
between Fushi Falhu and Dhiggaru
Falhu with a sandbank about 30 meters
around the corner. Caves on the
outer side of Fushi Kandu concentrate
a lot of sharks and reef fish. Kandus
are an ideal drift dive site when
it is high tide and visibility in
the sub-diving is more than 150
feet. The running water in the location
of diving in the Maldives makes
diving more interesting and exciting.
